Dreamers Project Prints

Earlier this month, I've released a new series of prints inspired by the makers and dreamers in my life. This is a side project that I'm really excited to share with the world.

Opening: MISFITS and Tiny Travelling Gallery

Thanks so much to everyone who came to our opening for MISFITS and Tiny Travelling Gallery exhibits at The Depot Artspace. It was a buzzing full house with 200+ peeps (and heaps of cute dogs!) So much talent with 50+ artists being showcased. Come down if you haven't made it, it's still on till 5 August.

MISFITS and Tiny Travelling Gallery NZ

Two rad exhibits I'll be part of this month!

First, fresh from its LA and London tour is the Tiny Travelling Gallery group show with works from 50 wicked artists from all over NZ.

Rad artists include Cinzah, Mica Still, Sean Duffell, Scott Savage, Colleen Pugh, Jinx in the Sky, Xoe Hall, Erin Forsyth, Erika Pearce, Malangeo, Podgypanda and more.

Second, is our 3-person exhibit, MISFITS, alongside Rebecca Ter Borg and Malangeo.

MISFITS is a group exhibition featuring three New Zealand artists who identify their practice as being in the Lowbrow/Pop Surreal space.

Lowbrow (also known as Pop Surrealism) describes a visual art movement that arose in the Los Angeles, California area in the late 1970s. It is a broad term referring to artistic forms relating to popularist culture. This genre's main points of identification are its figurative focus, its cultivation of narrative and its strong valuing of technical skill and craft.

I'll be showing a new body of work on wood, as well as prints.

Both opens at The Depot Artspace  on 18 July, Saturday at 2pm and is on till 5 August. Hope to see you there.

Origins - Solo Exhibit

My second solo exhibit and my first ever in Manila is happening this month. "ORIGINS" at Art Underground Gallery in Shaw Blvd. Opens Jan 17 at 6pm and runs till 27. Paintings, sketches and hand-signed and numbered limited edition prints will be on display. Hope to see you there.

Tiny Travelling Gallery

It's the Tiny Travelling Gallery, organised by the wonderful Scott Savage and Colleen Pugh.

Artists include Mica Still, Paul Shih, Otis Frizzell, Anna Johnstone, Podgypanda, Michael Kennedy, Erin Forsyth and more.

More details on my Tiny Travelling piece soon!

Basement Theatre Roller Door

Last September I painted the Basement Theatre front roller door, in collaboration with graffiti artist Aesop from IK crew. The result was an interesting melding of our contrasting styles.

This being our first collaboration, we were interested to see what would happen if we merge our two existing styles -- nature-inspired and whimsical, with graffiti letterforms and architectural detailing. The process involved some sketching, but for the most part, the fun bit was how it all organically came together when we were already in front of the roller door. This is definitely going to be the first of many collaborations.

You can read more about it on the Basement Theatre website here

Phoenix Drinks

I've teamed up with Phoenix Drinks for their limited edition artist bottles, with the talented Mulga The Artist and Mica Still ∇ Artist

As part of the #LoveProject, Phoenix has partnered with Sustainable Coastlines and Tangaroa Blue to help clean up and protect our beaches and coastal walkways.

Here's the full art piece, entitled "Milieu". This piece is driven by concepts of cycle, renewal and connection. I was inspired by the idea that every aspect of the environment is connected, transmuting into different forms as each aspect goes through its own life cycles. Land, water and air are all interconnected; a slight shift affects all beings in it, including us.

More on this project soon.
